I will drive anywhere for a comforting plate of biscuits and gravy, and lucky for us Columbus has embraced this southern tradition in a way only the 614 can, by adding a splash of originality.

The Woodbury has built its reputation in Columbus as a go-to spot for innovative breakfast fare (Chicken Hotcake Tacos, anyone?) A playful collaboration with its sister restaurant Pecan Penny’s, the Brisket Biscuits & Gravy is an effortlessly balanced dish that harmoniously pairs smokey brisket and peppery country gravy. The Woodbury has successfully brought BBQ to the breakfast table and is serving it all day long.

Boxwood Biscuit Co. recently opened its first brick and mortar in the Short North, and it did not take long for the neighborhood to embrace these sky-high biscuits. The golden crust on the buttermilk squares provides perfect insulation, ensuring a firm biscuit to mop up one of its specialty gravies. Pork sausage miso (an impossible version available for vegetarians), thunderkiss red-eye maple, and truffle creamed spinach are the daily offerings, in addition to a weekly feature. If you want to go all-in, get a biscuit and gravy flight so you can experience the mad-science behind these enticing flavors.

Skillet defines farm-to-table dining in Columbus, offering a daily-changing lineup showcasing local farms and purveyors. Featuring a “cat’s head” biscuit, the featured gravy is guaranteed to bring an uncomplicated depth of flavor using creative protein pairs that Skillet effortlessly produces each week. Skillet’s gravy playlist includes unique offerings such as chicken and chorizo, lump crab, mushroom, and (my favorite) lamb and chorizo. Although Skillet can’t tell you what the featured gravy will be ahead of time, it is never a gamble that it will taste amazing.
Insider tip: If you like a bit of spice, add a few shakes of the smokey house-made hot sauce, and then buy a bottle to take home because it is incredible!

Ok Columbus, you now have weekend plans to support a local restaurant and enjoy a soul-warming meal of biscuits and gravy.
