Bar that was longtime downtown fixture to close

The Main Bar, 16 W. Main St., is set to close later this month.

Jim Velio, who co-owns the bar with James Talbot, said they plan to hold a celebration for customers on Feb. 27. Their last day of operation will be Feb. 28.

Velio said The Main Bar could no longer afford rent, and that the small space made accommodating social distancing difficult.

“Our income dropped dramatically,” he said, following the onslaught of the pandemic.

Velio said he is grateful to the customers who supported The Main Bar over its 20-plus years downtown.
