Here’s how you can help The Plant Gays open their first brick and mortar storefront

Jack McLaughlin

The Plant Gays could use a little of your leftover holiday spirit to get their first-ever brick and mortar shop off the ground.

The vendor of interesting and unusual house plants—which also specializes in designing interiors with plants and hand-pouring artisan concrete planters—is set to open in the East Market, the 40,000 square-foot centerpiece of the Trolley District development, later this year.

Only, like many things in life, their estimated costs ended up falling short of what it’s actually going to cost. That’s why the Plant Gays owners have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the rest of their new shop’s expenses.

“As with any build out of a business, the cost almost always goes over budget. That’s where you all come in,” co-owner David Erbe said via GoFundMe. “With your help, we will be able to pay for build out expenses & buy display furniture for our new shop! Any money raised will go directly to purchasing items to open our space at the East Market.”

Their campaign, which you can find here, aims to raise $10,000 by Feb. 2022.

Donors will receive a variety of thank-you gifts for their contributions, ranging from Lonantha Guatemala airplants to a private plant propagation class and repotting class for five people.
