BBQ food truck opens first brick and mortar restaurant today

Fans of the SmokeOut BBQ food truck have one more reason to get excited about the weekend.

That’s because the eatery is set to open its first-ever brick and mortar space today, with its grand opening taking place from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.

SmokeOut BBQ, which was created in 2019 by owner Derek Johnson, is located at 1850 Winderly Ln. in Pickerington.

In an interview with 614Now earlier this year, Johnson said he plans to add fryers to the eatery, an element that wasn’t present on the Smokeout food truck. Additionally, he has converted the 2,200 square foot storefront into a space for “fast food barbecue,” with the implementation of speedy service and a drive-thru window.

“We handled over 40 weddings in 2021, but I had to set a limit to the amount we could do, mostly because of limited prep space in the food trailer,” Johnson said. “The new restaurant is going to allow us to do a lot more.”
