The South End Cafe is coming to Columbus soon, and the new restaurant and coffee combination just received a boost along the way.

The new concept, which will serve as both a coffee shop. roastery and restaurant in addition to a non-profit workforce development program backed by Community Development for All People, received $250,000 from a funding package that was signed into law in March. The funding was secured by US Senator Sherrod Brown.

“We are grateful for Senator Brown’s incredible support for the South End Café,” said Mike Premo, Director of Engagement for CD4AP and Executive Director of the Café in a press release. “Thanks to him and our other partners, we’re off to a great start on providing employment, good coffee, healthy food and community connection to the South Side for years to come.”

Located at 1951 S. Parsons Ave., The South End Cafe will employ a staff of 7-10 workers, offering them both important vocational skills from the job itself, but also helping them secure long-term employment down the road in the career of their choosing.

While the cafe has received several grants so far from six different sources, the congressional funding is worth more than all of its other funding combined by more than $50,000.

The cafe is slated to open next month.
