The Columbus-based social media star Alexis Nikole, known also as “BlackForager,” is popular for her informative and entertaining videos dedicated primarily to foraging wild edibles, and she’s receiving some major national commendation for it.

Yesterday, the James Beard Foundation announced that Nikole was nominated for a James Beard Media Award in the Social Media Account category.

Nikole has earned 3.5 million TikTok followers, and just 1 million Instagram followers, as well as attention from national media outlets like The New York Times, Rolling Stone and Bon Appétit.

She was named a finalist alongside KJ Kearney of BlackFoodFridays and Aleya Zenieris of Buzzfeed Tasty.

“We are thrilled to recognize the 2022 Media Award Nominees in their own right and celebrate each of their outstanding accomplishments and talents in their respective fields,” said Clare Reichenbach, Chief Executive Officer of the James Beard Foundation in a press release. “Each Nominee has set a standard of excellence, innovation, and creativity in their work, and the James Beard Foundation looks forward to recognizing the award winners at the Media Awards ceremony in June.”

No other Columbus chefs or restaurants were nominated for a James Beard Award this year, so here’s to hoping BlackForager can bring a win to Central Ohio.
