Find out which local eatery D.L. Hughley couldn’t get enough of while he was in Columbus

You may know comedian and actor D.L. Hughley as one of the “Original Kings of Comedy” members, as the recipient of the 72nd Peabody Award or as one of his numerous Hollywood film roles.

Turns out he’s also a big fan of a local Columbus restaurant.

The popular comedian was in the Arch City Nov. 11-13 for a trio of shows at Columbus Funny Bone, and according to Kendra Talley, the owner of Kay’s Soul Food Kitchen, Hughley is officially a fan of her food.

Talley met Hughley before his Nov. 11 show, as they share a mutual friend. As Hughley and his team were discussing dinner options, Talley suggested her own restaurant, which opened earlier this year inside the food hall of the new Saraga International grocery.

The soul food spot then personally delivered a dinner of scampi salmon with yellow rice, mango and pepper, fried chicken, mac and cheese and collard greens with fried cabbage to Hughley’s hotel.

“They absolutely loved it and ate it all,” Talley said.

And after enjoying her food, the actor and comedian made sure to show the local restaurant owner how much he appreciated the meal.

“We talked for about an hour and he invited us back to the show that night, and literally showed us the best hospitality ever,” she said. “He bought us drinks, got his front row tickets, let us come backstage. I was really, really, really impressed. I’ll never forget that moment.”
