Here’s what you need to know about the new pizzeria taking over the former home of Neighbor’s Deli

Neighbor’s Deli is gone, but we have a brand-new pizzeria lined up to take its place.

Shorty’s Pizza & GROWL, a Delaware-based spot for pizza, subs, wings and more, will open its third location inside the former home of Neighbor’s, at 2142 Henderson Rd. on the Northwest Side of Columbus.

Shorty’s Owners John Cordas and Thom Ibinson envision the location to pick up where Neighbor’s left off by creating a mostly carryout space, although it will offer several tables for dine in customers.

“This is going to be our first time getting into the carryout-only game,” Cordas said. “[The Powell restaurant] is our larger location where we host a lot of people and partner with sports teams. Our Delaware location is a more of a family-based restaurant, a place you can walk to, but that one has about 70 seats still.”

Ibinson said the new eatery is aimsing for an early July opening, although this will depend on licensing, permitting and inspections.

For Cordas, even though the new spot will be Shorty’s first location in Columbus proper, it’s still in very familiar territory.

“I remember when I was out of college, I was at Olentangy commons [a nearby apartment complex], I used to go to Neighbor’s all the time. It’s funny how things work full circle like that.”
