Popular New York-based beer company opening first Columbus-area location this weekend
Columbus craft beer lovers have something to cheer about before the Buckeye season takes hold this year.
New York-based Fattey Beer Co. will officially open its first-ever Ohio storefront, located at 79 S. State St. in Westerville, this weekend. The Uptown spot will be Fattey’s first location outside of New York.
According to Co-owner and Manager of the Westerville store, Bryan Stewart, Fattey will hold its grand opening on Aug. 20. Doors will open at noon.

While Fattey doesn’t brew its own beer, the store does typically offer more than 500 different craft beers at any given time. This selection, according to Stewart, is anchored by its massive “beer wall,” where all of the store’s carryout offerings are displayed like books on a library shelf. Customers will be able grab a six-pack from Fattey’s highly-curated selection, or enjoy a draft beer on-site.
“We try to carry everything for all beer lovers alike. That means you’ll always be able to find a lager, IPA, sour, stout, cider or wheat beer, and we have a good selection of ciders, seltzers, non-alcoholic and gluten-free beer as well,” Stewart said.
The 1,000 square-foot storefront in Uptown Westerville will serve Fattey’s “world famous” chicken sandwich, which was a finalist for Best Chicken Sandwich in Buffalo in 2021, in addition to soft pretzels. Customers are also able to bring in outside food, and dogs are welcome.
Created by Nik Fattey, a former NHL scout for the Buffalo Sabres and General Manager for the Buffalo Beauts, the beer company currently operates six other taprooms and bottle shops in New York state.
Stewart, a former Columbus Blue Jackets scout, moved to Westerville in 2007. A friend and former of colleague of Nik Fattey, Stewart always had his eye on a local Fattey Beer Co. location since the concept’s inception in 2017.
“When Nik launched the first Fattey in 2017, I started kicking around idea: ‘If I ever get out of hockey, Uptown Westerville is the perfect location,’” he said. “For about five years I secretly made notes of places that were for rent, and then the stars aligned. We decided to launch a store in Ohio, and a spot became available. And here we are.”
