Restaurant founded by rapper 2 Chainz opening soon in Downtown Columbus

A new eatery is coming to Downtown Columbus, and it’s music to our ears.

Esco Restaurant & Tapas, the eatery and bar concept co-founded by Grammy Award-winning rapper 2 Chainz, is slated to open soon.

The new restaurant will be located in the former home of Pub Mahone at 31 E. Gay St. Esco has not announced a grand opening date yet, but the restaurant’s website states it plans to open this fall. The rest of its kitchen staff is currently being hired, according to recent Instagram posts.

Esco was founded in Atlanta by 2 Chainz and business partner Michael “Snoop” Dillard in 2016. At the time, the concept went by the name Escobar, but after recently settling a 2020 lawsuit filed by the family of late Colombian drug boss Pablo Escobar, its name was changed to Esco restaurant & Tapas.

The Columbus franchise will be owned and operated by Jessica Kay and the Kay Group Corp.

Featuring an eclectic menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner items, Esco offers everything from Catfish and Grits to Macaroni and Cheese Spring Rolls, Cajun Salmon and Alfredo Pasta. It also offers specialty cocktails and even hookah.

The concept currently operates two locations in Atlanta, and is planning four more, including restaurants in Marietta (Georgia), Dallas, Memphis and Columbus, according to Esco’s website.
