Star Columbus chef Avishar Barua launching new grill-inspired restaurant in the Brewery District

Former “Top Chef” standout Avishar Barua recently began work on a travel-inspired eatery in Worthington, and now he’s unveiled plans for an exciting new Brewery District concept as well.

Barua will be creating a new live-fire restaurant named after the Hindu god of fire, Agni. The new eatery will be located 716 S. High St., in the former home of Ambrose & Eve, although no opening date has been announced yet.

According to Barua, Agni’s menu will be unified by the idea of the grill, of preparing food over flames.

“Almost every culture has food that’s prepared this way,” he said. ““Using fire like this allows us to create all different types of cuisine.”

And while flame-grilled fare will be front and center at Agni, Barua said that the concept as a whole is geared toward creating an experience for diners first and foremost.

“We’re trying to think about the restaurant as a whole, about what will give people the best experience,” he said. “Like going to a friend’s house for a barbeque: you’re talking to other people, you’re grilling burgers, it’s al fresca dining that you really feel like you’re a part of. That’s what we want to create.”

To that end, the Brewery District spot will even offer a small number of seats directly in front of the restaurant’s grill, where diners can order from a grill-focused chef’s menu and experience the action first-hand.
