The Weekender: Vegetarian Pizza Party

Alyson Strickler-Vazquez

Who doesn’t love pizza? It’s a practical everyday go-to for most families in the #614, and while I am not a vegetarian, I have found a way to make my pizza party meatless and delicious. A perfect pizza night includes a fulfilling salad, meaty buffalo wings, and a well-topped pizza. Harvest Pizzeria has managed to satisfy my cravings with a strictly vegetarian menu.

Kale Caesar is the must-have item that kicks off this magical meatless meal. Kale is a dividing word among most diners, but I assure you this salad didn’t choose its base just for the buzzword. The local lacinato kale, Parmigiano Reggiano, toasted hazelnuts, and house Caesar dressing harmonize deliciously, leaving forks fighting for scraps. Coming in two sizes, the small easily feeds two to three people. The fluffy clouds of Parmigiano Reggiano delicately mix with the oil-based Caesar dressing that brightens the dish with lots of acidity from vibrant lemon. There are many reasons this is one of my go-to salads in Columbus.

Buffalo Cauliflower could never live up to the real thing, right? Wrong! These are quickly becoming my preference. Harvest dusts the cauliflower in a light breading, cooks until tender, and douses in house-made buffalo sauce. Served with a side of buttermilk dressing, these bulbous bites still maintain a delicate crunch. The exterior is lightly coated with crunchy hangers-on that allow you to soak up the pools of surrounding buffalo sauce. Harvest’s Buffalo Cauliflower effortlessly recreates the mouthfeel of a traditional wing with the same zing and meaty texture.

Roasted Garlic Pizza is my go-to recommendation for people who love two of the world’s greatest gifts: garlic and cheese. Harvest’s wood-fired thin crust pizza delivers on flavor with strong notes of roasted garlic, gooey raclette cheese, spice from Calabrian chilis, acidity from cherry tomatoes, and peppery notes and texture from the arugula. The crust gets charred by the fire creating air pockets of bubbly dough. One pizza is plenty to share but be prepared to claim your slices.

Whether you are vegetarian or not, we can agree that Harvest Pizzeria puts out a craveable meal, even when meatless.
