After 86 years, this long-standing Grandview business is closing

All the way back in 1936, Dave Schirtzinger and Pat Maloney opened an arts and crafts supply store known as Star Beacon Products. Since then, the business has survived three generations and 86 years, but next month, it will close its doors for good.

In a statement posted to its website, Star Beacon Products said it plans to close its doors for good on Aug. 31.

“As with many small family businesses, we have been adversely affected by the Covid pandemic, the subsequent supply chain struggles, and our customer base changing their purchasing practices,” the statement reads. “We worked through these problems and issues and have come to the point where we have made the difficult decision to close the store.”

Star Beacon Products will be holding daily liquidation sales with storewide discounts until their inventory is sold.

Today, the store is located at 1104 Goodale Blvd. in Grandview. It relocated to the location from Downtown Columbus in the 1950s.

“We want to thank you, our customers. Many of whom have been shopping with Star Beacon for decades. We will miss seeing each of you.  Stop in during our last weeks. Look around, share memories, leave a message, and keep us kindly in your thoughts,” the statement reads.
