Arrest made in yesterday’s Short North shooting death

Columbus Police have made an arrest related to a shooting homicide that occurred in the Short North early yesterday morning.

The suspect, 47 year old Jeremy Vest, was arrested and charged yesterday afternoon.

Just before 2 a.m. yesterday morning, officers responded to a convenience store on the 800 block of N. High Street in the Short North where the victim, 51 year old Nicholas Evans, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to court documents, an altercation took place between Vest and Evans in the alley behind the convenience store. Vest then allegedly shot Evans, who attempted to run into the store, but collapsed near a rear entrance where he was found by police.

Vest is being charged with murder. His arraignment was scheduled for 9 a.m. this morning.
