One dead after early-morning shooting in Columbus shopping center

One person has died following an early morning shooting at a North Side shopping center.

According to Columbus Police, one person was shot at the Columbus Square Shopping Center, located on the 5700 block of Cleveland Ave.

Just before 5 a.m. on May 1, police responded to a call at the shopping center, where one person had been shot. The victim was transferred to a nearby hospital and declared dead just after 7 a.m.

Police have not released the name of the victim, and they have not commented on what led to the shooting.

This incident comes less than a week after the former Roosters Wings restaurant—located adjacent to the shopping center at the corner of Cleveland Ave. and Dublin Granville Rd.—announced it would be closing. Two different shootings took place at the restaurant between February and late April, one of which was fatal.

UPDATE: Police have identified 43-year-old Fidel Carrol as the victim.
