Celebrate the ‘Barbie’ release at these Barbie-themed pop-ups
Lately, it’s Barbie’s World, and we’re just living in it.
The highly anticipated Barbie movie is gracing our theaters this week, and with it, brings pop-ups, celebrations, and events. Maybe you didn’t get the chance to stay at the Barbie Malibu Dreamhouse? No need to book a ticket to Cali – Columbus is transforming into a pink paradise of its own and paying homage to America’s beloved icon.
Gateway Film Center is rolling out the red, or should I say, pink carpet this week. Kicking off on Thursday, July 20th, they’re throwing a Premiere Night Party in their Festival Lounge from 6pm-9pm. Reserve your tickets for this day and make sure to indulge in complimentary Barbie (& Oppenheimer) themed snacks, strike poses in their photo booth, and sip on themed cocktails. Dress up for their costume contest, and bust out some dance moves with CD 92.9’s live set. If you’re more of a “C’mon Barbie, let’s go party” person, but on a weekend instead of a Thursday, they’ll have cocktails available for their Friday screening. On Saturday, the gals of the pop-up sensation, Not Ur Sweetheart , will be slinging cocktails in Gateway’s Torpedo Room, where they’ll be paying homage to Old Hollywood and the magic of the silver screens through their themed drinks. On Sunday, enjoy a Barbie Brunch in the Festival Lounge from 12-4. Gateway is conveniently located at 1550 N High St. and will start their Barbie screening on Thursday, July 20th.
Grandview Theatre and Studio 35 & Drafthouse, two independently run local theatres, are also hosting an array of Barbie-themed events to celebrate a fantastic “life in plastic.” While their Barbie Beer Tastings are all sold out, keep your eye on their events page, for they’ve teased a Barbie Beach Party and Malibu Barbie Bash. Grandview Theatre is nestled at 1247 Grandview Ave., and Studio 35 is located at 3055 Indianola Ave. Both theatres will transport us to the wonderful world of Barbie starting on July 20th.

If you simply can’t wait until Thursday to throw on your stilettos and watch Margot Robbie play the role of your favorite childhood doll, select AMC Theatres in Columbus are hosting a Barbie Blowout Party, where they’re showing early screenings on Wednesday evening. They’re almost sold out, so make sure to get your tickets here.
Lastly, mark your calendars for the Barbie Truck Tour at Easton Town Center on August 6th, where you can find mobile 1970’s inspired Malibu Barbie merchandise parked at Easton near Crate & Barrel.
With our local theatres inviting us to channel our inner child with their themed events and immersive screenings, we might as well lean into this Barbie Fever.
