Here are some hints: this shop, nestled in the heart of German Village, has a charming garden bursting with colorful flowers, is a tourist hub for gifts and trinkets, and most notably, boasts a maze of 32 rooms adorned floor to ceiling with books.

If you guessed The Book Loft, congrats! You know your Columbus local businesses. This isn’t just any local shop though – this one has garnered national recognition.

According to an inaugural list created by Yelp, this famous bookstore is considered one of America’s “Favorite Mom-and-Pop Shops.” They highlighted 150 U.S. independently-owned and operated businesses, ranking them based on “a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews.”

The Book Loft, located on 631 South Third Street in German Village, enchants guests with its vast selections of independent books, gifts for bibliophiles, fun calendars, board games, and so much more. The labyrinth of 32 rooms are categorized into themes such as “Biographies” and “Classics,” and there’s something for anyone and everyone here. There are detailed maps in case you get lost. The courtyard filled with flowers, fountains, and benches offer an oasis for those that can’t wait to get home to read their newly selected novel.

This book-lover’s mecca began as a humble store in 1977 with only 3 rooms. It’s been through eight expansions since then, becoming a premiere spot for German Village visitors and Columbus locals.
