Gadget Gourmet: Local ‘MasterChef’ contestant Wayne Lewis taps his three must-have kitchen tools

Gadget Gourmet is a new 614Now series where local chefs and restaurateurs highlight some of their favorite kitchen tools, so you can step your game in the kitchen as well. Our first installment features Wayne Lewis, owner of 614 Media Group and semi-finalist on Season 13 of Fox’s “MasterChef” with Gordon Ramsey.

From Wayne:

Long before having the incredible opportunity to cook for Gordon Ramsay and represent Columbus on Season 13 of MasterChef I’ve been an avid home cook. Honing my craft for more than 25 years, cooking has been a lifelong passion.

There are so many cooking gadgets and gimmicks out there that are frankly, mostly a waste of money. That said, there are a few things I swear by that make your home-chef duties that much easier. Here are a few of mine.

May the Juice be with you

Whether juicing lemon or limes for a recipe or our new favorite – squeezing fresh orange juice in the a.m. this juicer is fast and efficient. It provides great leverage to make quick work of even the biggest oranges. Cleans easy and folds for compact storage. Wish I had known about this years ago!

For the love of pasta

I love to make fresh pasta and it’s much easier than you think! It’s only flour, eggs, salt and olive oil. Bonus: it cooks super-fast too – usually under 90 seconds. The one tool I wouldn’t want to be without is a quality pasta machine to roll beautifully smooth sheets for ravioli or tortellini and perfect cuts for spaghetti or fettuccine. I’ve had my Imperia for 6 years now and it works flawlessly. It’s heavy duty and will last a lifetime with care.

Ditch the cord

I call this my “Magic Stick” because it can do so much, so easily and without the hassle of a cord. Turn whole canned tomatoes into the start of a marinara right in the pot. Whip up a batch of the fluffiest scrambled eggs. Make quick work of soups. No more dumping from pot to stand-up blender and back to the pot. Almost 2 years now with my Chefman “Magic “Stick. This is the way.
