10,000 square foot retro arcade and bar opening this weekend

West Church Social is about to arrive in the Columbus area. All 10,000 square feet of it.

The massive new bar and arcade, which is located at 1650 W. Church St. in Newark, is currently undergoing its soft opening phase, and its grand opening celebration will take place on Dec. 16. At 8 p.m.

The massive new Licking County space will feature retro arcade games like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong, in addition to skee-ball, darts, giant Jenga and an electronic axe-throwing system that functions similar to a dart board. 32 TVs will adorn the spacious bar as well.

Food at the Newark spot will be “food truck-driven” according to co-owner Matt Maynard, but West Church Social also plans to offer a food concept from its own kitchen space sometime in the future.

Additionally, a section of the Newark building–which formerly housed a brewpub and a sports bar–will be home to a speakeasy called The Everett. A nod to the 20th-century Newark entrepreneur Edward Everett, a man who was was widely known as “the bottle king” for his large-scale glass bottle production facility. The space will feature a different atmosphere from the main bar area, Maynard said, complete with “speakeasy vibes,” deer mounts and plenty of black coloring.
