Aesthetic new wine gallery and lounge brings tastings, chef dinners and more to the Columbus area

Downtown Delaware is becoming quite the hub for intimate hangouts. The family-owned breweries, quaint shops & boutiques, historic movie theater, live jazz in the summer, and numerous restaurants, antique stores, and art galleries, all within walking distance of each other, make it a perfect spot for a cozy night out. Clō Wine Gallery & Lounge, the newest addition to this snug downtown on the outskirts of Columbus, amplifies Delaware’s sense of community and warmth.

Clō Wine Gallery & Lounge is the latest spot to showcase a gallery of sustainable wines, and a place for the community to lounge about, sip on a cappuccino, and enjoy a mindfully produced glass of vin on their French inspired patio. Their decor is thoughtfully curated; even the simple, white walls have their purpose. “For now, the walls are intentionally a bit sparse to not only highlight the wine selection, but also to allow the guest to fill the space with a bit of themselves,” Nicole Vanderdoes, the owner, explains. The “Gallery” aspect of the name implies that the wine is not only a product for consumption, but also a visual and interactive aesthetic. Although Clō offers sophisticated snacks and coffee, it’s far from a typical bar or restaurant, and Nicole “…wanted that to be clear with the seating arrangements, showcasing the “Lounge” aspect of the shop. We want our guests to feel comfortable, but not so comfortable that they take off their shoes (which happens a lot!).”

Nicole had her community in mind first and foremost when taking on this wine establishment. She views her passion project as an investment in the neighborhood and a chance to be closer to a place she’s called home for the past 12 years. Her wine shop also goes above and beyond to make sustainable choices, even down to the biodegradable trash bags they buy. The wines she carefully selects to present to the guests at Clō are made from grapes that have been ethically farmed and produced through the most thoughtful of wine-making methods. In other words, these wines are the best of the best, while still being accessible to all different wine preferences.

Along with a unique selection of wine, Clō offers vegetarian and vegan fare reminiscent of a cafe in Paris. Pair your wine with Marcona almonds & Castelvetrano olives, a lemon & herb compound butter with a warm baguette, a camembert, brie, swiss, and gruyère cheese spread, lentil, walnut, and cognac mushroom pâté, or a crème fraîche flatbread. After a couple of glasses of wine, beer, or cocktails, one of their house-made cappuccinos might be on the table, too.
Between their special event tastings and chef’s dinners, their inspired snack menu, and their lovely biodynamic wines, who needs to book that trip to France when you could just take a short trip to downtown Delaware?
