After 40 years, this Columbus bakery has closed its doors

Jack McLaughlin

Since 1983, the Suisse Shop Bakery had been serving up some of the city’s best cookies, cakes and more, but after 40 years, the spot has closed its doors.

A sign on the bakery’s front door, which was located at 2119 Polaris pkwy., notifies patrons of the closure.

“Due to the inability to hire the skilled bakers and decorators needed to operate—combined with the increasing cost of ingredients—current management finds it impossible to continue,” the sign reads.

Although this means Suisse is closed, at least for now, the bakery seemed to suggest the possibility of the shop reopening under new ownership in the future.

“We hope that within weeks or months, new management will reopen the Suisse Shop,” the sign reads. “Thank you for your years of patronage. We are sorry for the inconvenience this causes you.”
