After fire, this east side restaurant has temporarily closed

While several eateries have been temporarily shuttered due to vehicle crashes in recent months, one east side eatery was recently forced to close its doors due to damage from a December fire.

The Shrimp Hut, a Whitehall restaurant specializing in seafood, released a statement to its social media accounts on Friday notifying customers that it will remain temporarily closed due to a fire.

“Right before Christmas we suffered a bad fire at the Yearling location. Luckily no one was hurt, and everyone made it home to their families safely,” the statement reads.

The statement also includes a call to action for Shrimp Hut fans.

“Honestly this couldn’t have happened at a worse time. I was struggling to pay bills and make ends meet at home, while maintaining a business with little to no help,” the statement reads. “As a small business we face hurdles and struggles all the time but this one hurts, hurts our family, our community, and our dear customers that love our food. I NEED YOUR HELP.”

A link is provided to a GoFundMe account the restaurant has made to reopen quickly. You can contribute here. At the time of publication, it had raised $400 of a $10,000 goal.
