The City of Columbus is pushing back against a north side night club and bar with a history of crime and violence on its premises.

According to a press release, City Attorney Zachary Klein has filed a lawsuit to declare The Doll House, which is located at 1680 Karl Ct., a public nuisance. A hearing has been set for Feb. 16 at 9 a.m.

Klein’s lawsuit is also urging the court to shut down The Doll House temporarily until its owners are “able to demonstrate they have been able to address safety and security concerns,” the release reads.

“The level of violence and criminal conduct at this business is unacceptable, and while owners have indicated they want to step up to make changes, this lawsuit allows the City to step in as needed to hold owners accountable,” Klein said. “The City needs to see a real commitment to substantially improve safety and security, and will not hesitate to take appropriate legal action if those benchmarks aren’t met.”

According to the press release, police have taken at least 51 incident reports at The Doll House since January of 2021. These include incidents of shooting, overdose, robbery, sex crimes and a stabbing.

Most recently, a shooting last month at The Doll House killed one person and injured three others. Just prior to the shooting, in December of 2022, Columbus officials met with Doll House owners to discuss safety measures.
