After more than 25 years, Columbus-area brewery announces permanent closure

While Smokehouse Brewing Co. reopened following a temporary closure in the late summer of 2022, the long-standing central Ohio brewery announced earlier today that it plans to close for good at the beginning of the year.

According to a statement posted to the brewery’s social media accounts, Smokehouse will close its doors on Jan. 2.

“We have proudly served you for over a quarter century. Our chiller that we use for fermentation died. Without it, we can’t brew beer. Our situation is like a space capsule orbiting Earth and slowly running out of oxygen,” the statement reads. “We were one of the first craft breweries in the region. We’ll miss what we built. We’ll miss our beer. (We brewed over 100 different beers over the years.) We’ll miss our special events. We’ll miss our award-winning wings. We’ll miss you.”

The brewery announced a temporary closure due to staffing issues in August of 2022, and later reopened in October of 2022.
