At this brand-new Columbus restaurant, literally everything is made from potatoes

From gnocchi to french fries and even pancakes, the potato is as versatile as foods come. So why not create a new restaurant concept around it?

Luckily for Columbus, somebody did. Owner Latea Johnson has officially launched her new eatery, Potato City. The restaurant, which offers pickup and delivery, opened inside the Columbus Food Hall, which is located at 1282 Essex Ave., today.

“The concept really is all things potato. We’re doing a whole menu with potatoes only: appetizers, potato cakes, potato soup and more,” owner Latea Johnson said.

In addition to numerous indulgent riffs on the baked potato (including chili dog, Philly cheesesteak, alfredo pasta and pizza. Fries will also be a focal point of the eatery, but we’re not talking about one measly variety. Potato City will offer traditional fries, curly fries, waffle fries, sweet potatoes fries, tater tots and more.

Johnson is planning for an expansion to a brick and mortar restaurant in the next year or two, and is hoping to replicate the fast-casual style of service at places like Chipotle, where customers can create their own dishes from a handful of fan-favorite bases. If all goes according to plan, she sees an eventual expansion to Cleveland and Cincinnati for the eatery, although Columbus will always remain the original Potato City.
