City Council makes late-night food truck closures in the Short North official
Last night, Columbus City Council made the ban on after-hours food trucks in the Short North official. For the time being, at least, mobile food vendors in the Short North will now be forced to close at midnight.
City Council members voted yesterday to approve an executive order issued by Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther last week that bans mobile food vendors (food trucks and carts) from operating in the Short North after midnight.
The order, and Columbus City Council’s approval of it, serves as an attempt to stem the recent incidence of violence in the Short North, officials said.

“As we ask the bars and restaurants to close, and as we ask folks to exit the Short North at midnight, one of the things that would help expedite that is by having the food trucks pull back at that time as well,” Council President Shannon Hardin said at last night’s City Council meeting.
The food truck closures, which Hardin referred to as a “temporary initiative,” will become effective immediately, but are not meant to be permanent. Currently, the measure will only be active through Memorial Day weekend.
