Columbus-area eatery closed for over a year due to serious fire damage announces reopening plans

In December of 2021, the popular Hilliard eatery serving up central Texas-inspired barbecue, Legacy Smokehouse, caught fire. While no one was hurt, the damage was significant, and Legacy—although it launched a handful of temporary stints as a food truck this summer—has been shuttered ever since.

Nearly a year and a half later, Legacy Smokehouse is coming back. Rickhouse 41, a rooftop bourbon bar owner Chad Smock was planning to open in early 2022 on the second story of Legacy Smokehouse, is coming soon as well.

According to a post shared to the concept’s social media pages, the eatery plans to open to the public at the end of May, and will hold a fundraiser next month to help finance its  reopening push.

“It’s Happening!!! It has been a long time coming, but we are gearing up to reopen SOON,” the statement reads. “ On Friday, April 21 we are going to have a fundraiser/preview night to check out the renovations and help support Legacy and The Dot’s Tots Foundation.”

The fundraiser will be limited to 100 people total, and will cost $100 for general admission and $250 for VIP admission. Guests will receive two drinks, a barbecue buffet, shirts and a tour of the updated restaurant space.
