Columbus diner holds weekly “Divorced Dads Day,” and “Single Momma Sunday” specials

A Columbus diner is paying homage to single parents with a new series of recurring weekly specials.

Fitzy’s Old Fashioned Diner, a Columbus eatery dedicated to serving nostalgic diner classics in a retro-inspired setting, has been implementing a handful of weekly specials since new owner Scott Dahlen took over last year.

Two of them in particular have caught a significant amount of attention.

For the last nine months, every Tuesday is now Single Dads Day at Fitzy’s, meaning anyone paying child support (whether or not they’re actually divorced) can take 15 percent off. On Single Momma Sunday, which takes place every week, mothers with children receive a free kids meal with the purchase of any regular breakfast or lunch.

While the specials have seen some criticism on social media, Dahlen said both were created both to fit the theme of his eatery, which leans into a retro Americana theme, meaning a more traditional taco Tuesday theme wouldn’t apply, he said. The deals are also inspired by Fitzy’s owners and staff.

“I pay child support myself, that’s where the Divorced Dads deal comes from, and a lot of our waitresses are single moms, so it originates from the heart,” Dahlen said.

Fitzy’s, which is located at 1487 Schrock Rd., and is open from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. daily.
