Columbus foodie compiles nearly 50 local crab Rangoon reviews into a single public-use document

Public servants come in a variety of roles: librarians, peace corps members, and local foodies who create a public-use Google Spreadsheet reviewing nearly 50 different Columbus examples of crab Rangoon.

And if you’ve spent any time on the Columbus, Ohio subreddit, you’re like already familiar with Toastmuncher500 (who wishes to be identified by just their Reddit username).

Their most recent post, “Best Crab Rangoon in Columbus #48” includes not only an interactive map of all their ratings, but also a 500-word review on the rangoon from Oishii Bistro in Powell, rating the dish out of 35 points across four categories.

And this post is no anomaly; the Columbus foodie boasts detailed reviews for nearly all Rangoon entries on a massive public-use spreadsheet they’ve compiled.

You can view the spreadsheet here.

“The quest for crab rangoon started because crab rangoon is delicious and I love it, but also as a way to replace my former favorite crab rangoon from my college town: Athens, Ohio,” Toastmuncher500 told 614Now. adding that the crab Rangoon in question was from Fusion Noodle Company. “After graduating, I would get them every time I went back to Ohio University and was always sad that they didn’t have a location in Columbus. Then, the quest was born!”

The Columbus foodie’s hunt has been ongoing for nearly a year at this point, and new reviews are typically posted to the Columbus subreddit every Thursday.

They’re a hit, too, with reviews often exceeding 100 upvotes and dozens of comments.

In case you’re curious, the Rangoon connoisseur did note their top local pick so far out of nearly 50 entries.

“People don’t realize it, but there is a ton of variety among crab rangoon. Sushi Time in the Old North and Typhoon Asian Bistro in Delaware are currently tied for first place,” Toastmucher500 said. “If I had to choose, I would probably say I prefer Typhoon’s simply because they are so similar to the rangoon at Fusion in Athens. They’re a bundle rangoon with a chili sauce. As I said, my quest started to replace my former favorite, and those rangoon certainly did that.”
