Columbus foodie names his top-5 local pizzerias

Columbus, Ohio boasts a pizza landscape rich in flavor and diversity. While some pizza joints truly stand out with their distinct flavors, let’s be real – many folks’ “favorites” are just familiar pies served at a different address. My top five selections epitomize the city’s best. Classic Pizza and their classic thin crust, Hounddog’s thin or hand tossed crusts, Pie of the Tiger has my favorite Detroit style in Columbus, Terita’s is the quintessential Columbus style, and Vick’s is a slightly thicker, but still thin slice that is 100 percent worth the commute to Reynoldsburg.

Classic Pizza

906 S. Sunbury Rd., Westerville

Highlights: Thin crust pizza with delicious sauce and high quality toppings. My go to is the pepperoni and sausage. I live in Westerville so I frequent Classic’s and they’re always consistently delicious.

Hounddog’s Pizza

2657 N. High St., Columbus

Highlights: Light, crispy thin crust or a more substantial hand-tossed base. Great variety of sauces, ranging from the rich and aromatic pesto to the classic original, and for those who crave a fiery kick, the Howlin’ Hot is a must-try. While I enjoy pretty much everything here, my personal favorite is the hand-tossed Meat Lovers with Howlin’ Hot sauce.

Pie of the Tiger

674 N. High St., Columbus

Highlights: Incredible Detroit style pizza, some with traditional toppings and others that get a bit more creative. Their pizzas range from Cheese pizza to Dill Thrill which is a very fun and tasty pickle pizza. My go to is their pepperoni pizza.

Terita’s Pizza

3905 Cleveland Ave, Columbus

Highlights: Founded in 1959 they’ve been serving the quintessential Columbus Style pizza for over 60 years. I love their pepperoni and sausage pizza.

Vick’s Gourmet Pizza

7345 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg

Highlights: Founded in 1961, they’ve mastered the art of crafting amazing pizzas over the decades. The “Extreme Pep” is my top pick, featuring a generous portion of pepperoni. This delightful blend of classic and spicy pepperoni is not just a treat for the taste buds but a testament to their commitment to quality.
