Columbus man eats almost an entire large pizza in minutes to win eating contest

A local online pizza reviewer has earned his title.

Douglas Sherwood, a 50 year Columbus native and military veteran, and a moderator in the Pizza Connoisseurs of Columbus Facebook group after becoming this year’s Member of the Year, took home the top spot in a recent pizza-eating contest.

The event, hosted by the Grove City Christian Band Boosters, featured pies from 11 different pizzerias, a silent auction, and a pizza-eating contest.

The contest stated that whoever ate the most of their large pizza (each contestant had a large cheese pizza from Church of Naz) within 10 minutes would win, and that’s exactly what Sherwood did, although, as he noted, there were only four total contestants in his age bracket.

While there wasn’t an exact metric to determine who ate the most pie, Sherwood said it wasn’t needed.

“After the 10 minutes were up they looked at the pizzas and determined easily that I had won. One contestant was only eating partial slices and the other one (that won years ago) had only eaten roughly over half of his pizza,” he said, adding he took home a $25 gift card for his pizza-eating prowess.

Sherwood also recently launched his own pizza review channel on Youtube.
