Gourmet popcorn shop closing for good

The Westerville location of Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn will close before summer comes to central Ohio.

According to Anna Mae Blankenmeyer, franchisee of the Westerville sweet shop, the store will close because she is retiring.

Blankenmeyer told 614Now Shirley’s last day should be May 17, assuming the shop has a sufficient number of employees to operate that long. She said Shirley’s staff has been notified of the closure and is currently looking for other employment.

Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn, which is located at 15 N. State St. in Uptown Westerville, first opened in late 2015.

The concept, which boasts multiple storefronts throughout Ohio and single locations in Indiana and Virginia, has its corporate store in Bluffton, Ohio.
“It was a very difficult decision for me to step away from Shirley’s because of the wonderful Uptown community that has embraced me and our business,” Blankenmeyer said. “It has been a blessing and a true joy to provide ‘pure happiness’ to so many wonderful folks in Uptown and beyond over the past eight years!”
