International Korean fried chicken chain opening first Columbus location this month

A fast-growing Korean fried chicken concept is nearly ready to launch its first-ever Columbus location (and its first in Ohio, for that matter).

The Seoul-based eatery bb.q Chicken plans to open the doors of its first Central Ohio restaurant, which will be located at 17 S. Lane St. in the University District, this month.

The restaurant passed its final health yesterday, and a bb.q Chicken representative told 614Now the restaurant plants to open by mid-March.

The new eatery will be owned by a collective of Columbus restaurant-owners, including Anne and Chul Kim, who operate the longstanding Korean and Japanese eatery Diaspora, which is on the corner of North High Street and East Lane Avenue alongside bb.q Chicken.

The concept’s name stands for “best of the best quality,” and its menu features crispy Korean fried chicken tossed in a variety of sauces, like Honey Garlic, Spicy Galbi and Gangnam Style, a black pepper-based sauce complimented by onions and garlic.

The new campus-area spot will also feature a bar with eight taps, in addition to soju, a popular Korean liquor, and Korean cocktails.
