New Columbus-style pizzeria featuring homemade sauce, neighborhood ties, opens for business

A brand new pizzeria has come to the Hilltop.

Known as Westside Slice, the eatery held its soft opening yesterday. The new pizzeria, which is located at 958 Demorest Dr., took over the former home of Bella’s Pizza, which recently relocated.

Danny Jones who own Westside Slice with his wife, Tanya Jones, is a west side resident and graduate of nearby Franklin Heights High School. He knew the old Bella’s Pizza location well, and–wanting to launch a local concept of his own–decided to scoop up the empty storefront after Bella’s moved to 3858 Sullivant Ave.

“I’m from the neighborhood, my family lives about a mile away, and I wanted to open something new for the community,” Jones said.

The new spot serves thin, Columbus-style pizza, and crafts its own sauce from scratch, Jones added.

“It took me working for a good month to perfect the sauce, I was having friends and family taste it, I wanted to get my own blends and measurements,” he said.

For now, Westside Slice will serve as a pickup spot only, although it plans to open a patio this summer for dine-in customers. Jones also said the new pizzeria will begin hosting community events soon.
