Ohio pizzeria wins ‘Best of the Best’ title at International Pizza Expo

Each year, the International Pizza Expo is held in Las Vegas, and in five out of the last seven years, Akron’s Upper Crust Pizza has raked in some serious hardware.

And 2023 was no different.

This year, Upper Crust and Operations Executive Dan Banker took home the competition’s top prize, the coveted Best of the Best Award. While Upper Crust has won an award in five out of the last seven years, this is the shop’s first Best of the Best designation.

2017: Best Gluten-Free Pizza

2018: Best Pan Pizza

2019: Best Pan Pizza

2021: Pizza Maker of the Year

2023: Best of the Best

The contest contained five divisions (Traditional, Non-Traditional, Pan, CMAB California Style and Neapolitan), with hundreds of pizzerias from across the country, and the world, competing for the top spot.
