Owner of Bodega converting Short North apartment into speakeasy with craft cocktails

Bodega continues to serve as one of city’s most popular eateries, and now the Short North hotspot has a sister concept coming.

According to owner Brian Swanson, an apartment located directly behind Bodega is being converted into a speakeasy featuring craft cocktails and more.

Known as Apt B, the 750 space-foot space will operate in a unique middle ground between standalone concept and add-on space for Bodega that boasts a different feel.

“I always knew I wanted to have more space for Bodega, so when the apartment behind us became available in the middle of COVID, I jumped at the opportunity to take it,” Swanson said. “At first I wasn’t sure if it would be a private event space or an actual extension of Bodega, but it’s turned into something different altogether, into a speakeasy cocktail lounge.”

Like Bodega, Apt B is located at 1044 N. High St. The new spot is located behind Bodega, the two will be connected, Swanson said.

Offering craft cocktails as a compliment to Bodega, which is known for its eclectic craft beer menu, Apt B will occupy a former apartment that Swanson is repurposing into an open, single-room speakeasy.

Unlike other similar concepts in Columbus, Apt B will not require a password for entry.

Swanson said “most of the heavy lifting” for the buildout is complete, and he hopes to open the new space sometime this summer.
