Owner of Bodega opening new speakeasy in Short North apartment next month

The owner of one of Columbus’ hottest restaurants and bars is opening a new speakeasy concept next month, and he’s doing so in a Short North apartment building.

According to Brian Swanson, who owns Bodega and Worthington Tavern, his new concept, Apt. B, will officially open its doors to the public on Nov. 2. The concept’s grand opening celebration will run Nov. 2-4.

Apt. B, which will operate as a cocktail-forward speakeasy, is located at 1044 N. High St., directly behind Bodega. The two concepts will be connected.

“I always knew I wanted to have more space for Bodega, so when the apartment behind us became available in the middle of COVID, I jumped at the opportunity to take that space,” Swanson said in an interview earlier this year. “At first I wasn’t sure if it would be a private event space or an actual extension of Bodega, but it’s turned into something different altogether, into a speakeasy cocktail lounge.”

Focusing on cocktails, Swanson sees the new concept–which will occupy a former apartment building that has been converted into a single, open-concept room–as a counterpart to Bodega, his short north bar and restaurant known for its eclectic craft beer selection.
