Popular Columbus bar and restaurant damaged in fire, closed for now

A Columbus restaurant and bar is closed for now after a fire tore through the building over the weekend, but its owners are working to put the pieces back together.

In the early hours of Sept. 2, a fire erupted at Shakers, Public House, which is located at 385 Georgesville Rd. in Franklin Township.

While many of the details of the fire are still unclear, there aren’t many questions left about the scope of its damage: Shakers’ location is currently shuttered

A photo posted to Shakers’ Facebook page over the weekend shows the extent of the damage,  with local fire crews trudging through the building, the ceiling of which has been almost entirely eaten away by flames.

On Sunday evening, Campbell provided an update on the building to the eatery’s Facebook page, one offering hope to patrons that the spot may return soon, in some form.

“Building is secure and boarded.

Partial power and alarm restored.

Next week begins clean out.

Out with the old, in with the new.

It will take time.

We are in talks about a temporary residency in a nearby kitchen for carryout.”

While any future timelines for Shakers are still unclear, it appears Campbell plans to restart Shakers in some capacity, and that he was at least partially prepared for the fire.

“We as a company appreciate but respectful decline any other offers of fundraising,” a post from Campbell reads. “We had measures in place to protect us in case of tragedy. Those measures will take time to kick in.”

In the meantime, if you’re looking to support Shakers Public House, the East Side car dealership Buckeye City Motorsports will be holding a public fundraiser for Shakers Public House on Sept. 16 from 12-4 p.m. Campbell told 614Now that funds from this event will benefit the Shakers Public House staff.

Drinks will be available, and guests will be able to make donations for Shakers Public House and participate in a fundraising raffle.
