Popular North Market vendor rebrands after legal dispute over name

The North Market Downtown and North Market Bridge Vendor formerly known as Coastal Local Market & Oyster Bar will now operate under a new name: COLO Market & Oyster Bar.

The eatery rebranded as Coast to Local temporarily last year after a legal dispute over its original name, Coastal Local. According to owner Ian Holmes, Coast to Local was a “stopgap” name for the concept, and COLO will be permanent. COLO’s wholesale arm will continue to be called Coastal Local.

“We’ve changed the name again. Long story short, due to a frivolous legal dispute over the word “Coastal,” we condensed Coastal Local to simply COLO,” Holmes said. “Despite this, our commitment to high quality food and services remains unchanged. Hope to sea you soon!”

According to Holmes, while the concept’s name has changed, it plans to offer the same quality products that made it a staple vendor at both North Market locations.

“It’s very frustrating,  especially during COVID when Mom and Pop businesses are suffering, but we’re hoping with the same great service everyone will be on board,” Holmes said.
