Short North sandwich shop has closed, at least for now

Jack McLaughlin

We knew it was coming, and now we know when: Icarus Sandwich Shop, the Short North eatery from the owners of Fox in the Snow, has closed, at least temporarily.

On its Instagram account, Icarus announced that yesterday was the final day guests would be able to order from the previous iteration of its menu and dine in at its storefront, which is located at 15 E. 2nd Ave. Icarus previously announced it would close near the end of January, but an official date was not named until yesterday.

Icarus, which is owned by Fox in the Snow owners Lauren Culley and Jeff Excell, will begin offering versions of its sandwiches in Fox in the Snow locations. According to Excell, this will begin in early February.

This means that, for now at least, the sandwich shop’s storefront, which is located at 15 E. 2nd Ave. in the Short North will close. Culley and Excell didn’t rule out a reopening of Icarus as a brick and mortar storefront, however.

“In an effort to expand lunch options at Fox in the Snow, we will soon be offering versions of Icarus sandwiches in all our Fox in the Snow cafes. While we try this new model, we will unfortunately be closing the doors of Icarus to the public until we understand what the demand will be at Fox and whether or not our space can support all shops,” their joint statement reads.

Icarus originally opened in the fall of 2021.
