The ‘Absolute Best Pancakes in Ohio’ are at this beloved Columbus café

The Smithsonian claims that the first mention of pancakes dates back to ancient Greece, some 30,000 years ago.

While pancakes have definitely evolved in taste since then (they’re much sweeter now!), it seems as if people everywhere in the world have enjoyed, for thousands of years, this simple concoction of flour and milk.

Mashed, a renowned online recipe publication, found the absolute best pancakes in every state according to data and reviews, and apparently, they’re right here in Columbus, Ohio.

The hottest hotcakes in Ohio aren’t your typical, flat stack though – Ohio’s ‘Absolute Best Pancake’ is rolled up into a ball, made with Fowler’s Mill flour and a filling of your choice: either Nutella, Dulce de Leche, or Pumpkin-Apple Butter, with local Maple Syrup on the side.

Those who know what I’m talking about, know that these iconic Pancake Balls can only be found at Katalina‘s – a local, female owned café located in a renovated, 100-year-old gas station. There’s a reason the line is almost wrapped around the block every weekend.

According to Mashed, Katalina’s nontraditional pancakes “that will you forget the flat variety…instead of being coated in toppings, these balls are filled, giving you the perfect ratio of pancake to filling every time…these bite-sized, beautiful morsels are the best pancakes in Ohio, hands down.”

Katalinas’ Harrison West location is at 1105 Pennsylvania Ave., and their second location is in Clintonville at 3481 N. High St. I’m going to take a wild guess where you’ll be this weekend?!
