This Columbus pizzeria is launching a BOOK IT!-inspired reading club where you can earn free pizza

If you grew up in the 90s, there’s a very good chance you remember the Pizza Hut BOOK IT! program, where after logging a certain amount of time reading, you were awarded with a personal pan pizza.

Now decades later, the Columbus pizzeria Wizard of Za (which is Dayton location) is offering its own take on the program.

According to Wizard of Za Vice President Carly Hensley, the popular spot has rolled out its first-ever Book Club program, which exchanges time spent reading for free Wizard of Za pizza.

“Growing up in the 90s, I knew every year i would get into BOOK IT! and eventually get a free pizza from it,” Hensley said. “I always thought it was fun and interesting; it got more people to read, and it brought people into the restaurants.”

In case you’re unfamiliar with the program (which continues to operate today), BOOK IT! was a fixture in schools across the country. Students would log their reading hours, and eventually would be able to score a free personal pizza from Pizza Hut after completing certain milestones.

To participate in the Wizard of Za’s program, you can stop either location and grab a Book Club sheet. This is (mostly) on the honor system, but if you’ve read for at least 20 minutes a day, you can color in one slice of pizza on the sheet. Once you’ve filled in all eight, you can claim a free Wizard of Za pizza.

The best part is, once you hand in your sheet and receive your free pizza, Wizard of Za will also hang your colorful pizza sheet on their wall.
