Worthington coffee company to close, will be replaced by popular local food and drink concept

While Highline Coffee Co. will cease to operate soon, its home at 693 High St. in Worthington will be replaced by a new location of the popular bakery and cafe Kittie’s Cakes.

According to Steve Herman, who alongside his wife Diane Herman took over ownership of Kittie’s last spring, the duo have purchased Highline Coffee from owner and founder Christie Bruffy. Highline Coffee Co. first opened in 2015.

“I have learned so much- about myself, about running a business, about managing staff, and about caring for my community. I am truly honored and privileged to have operated in this great neighborhood and know that you will be just as supportive to the new owners in their journey for years to come,” Bruffy said in a statement posted to Highline’s social media accounts on Sunday.

Herman said that Highline is temporarily closed until Jan. 9. It will reopen as Highline Coffee, but will eventually become a Kittie’s Cakes location. The transition will likely take several months.

“We learned very quickly that there’s something really magical about Kittie’s. We think it can work in certain locations, and Worthington was a perfect new home,” Herman said.

He believes Kittie’s lauded baked goods will be a welcome addition to Highline’s offerings, as the coffee shop didn’t offer many pastries previously. Herman said baked goods will be made at Kittie’s and delivered fresh to the Worthington location by 7 a.m. daily.
