An “exemplary” employee of a west side bar and restaurant was seriously injured during his commute to work, but the eatery is lending a helping hand.

According to Spencer Campbell, who owns Shaker Public House alongside his wife, Caitlin Campbell, employee Randy “Dawg” Spriggs was struck by a vehicle and injured while riding his bike to work yesterday.

Campbell said Spriggs did not show up for his shift, which raised alarm in employees and himself.

“Randy is an exemplary employee, highly regarded by all due to his amiable nature, strong work ethic, and unwavering focus. His commitment to his job is unparalleled, evident in his flawless attendance record and punctuality,” he said. “Yesterday marked an unusual departure from his reliable behavior, as he failed to appear for work or notify anyone of his absence. Naturally, concern quickly enveloped us as we pondered his well-being,”

Without realizing Spriggs was involved, Campbell noted he drove by the scene of the accident, and was even notified of it on the Citizen app.

He said Spriggs suffered serious injuries, including a broken neck and arm, a compound fracture in his leg and a head injury.

“Nonetheless, his resilience allowed him to retain consciousness long enough to urgently request that his aunt inform us about his condition and the reason for his absence,” Campbell said.

A GoFundMe page has been created for Spriggs by Campbell, seeking to raise $5,000.
