Video: Person with tree on their back steals single lightbulb in bizarre theft incident

A Hilliard homeowner’s confusion is likely greater than their anger following a bizarre theft that was captured on a doorbell camera.

On Feb. 20 at 7:37 p.m.,  a Hilliard resident’s doorbell camera captured a video of an individual who carefully removes and steals a speciality lightbulb from the front of the home.

While the theft of a lone lightbulb is unusual enough, there’s something even more unique about the incident: The suspect has a (fairly large) tree secured to their back,

“You have to see it now to believe it but..last night someone carrying a tree on their back stole one of our flickering driveway lights from our house,” the post, from Facebook user Jessica Luedike, reads. “Anyone missing a tree?”

A close examination of the video appears to show the tree is being supported by the suspect’s shirt.

While not much more information Is known about the tree-carrying thief, according to an incident report filed with Columbus Police (which has jurisdiction over that area of Hilliard), the incident took place on the 3000 block of Kilcullen Drive, and the suspect was wearing a camouflage shirt.
