Woman killed in grocery store parking lot; Suspect arrested over 400 miles away after fleeing

A woman was shot and killed in a Westerville shopping plaza last night, and the suspected killer has been apprehended after fleeing across the country.

According to Columbus Police, officers responded to a parking in the Sunbury Plaza just after 5:30 p.m. yesterday evening. They found 24 year-old Amara Jones suffering from a gunshot wound to her head. She was administered CPR and taken to a nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead at 622 p.m.

The suspected shooter, 29 year-old Rodney Perry, initially went on the run, fleeing to North Carolina. He turned himself in and was arrested just north of Charlotte, North Carolina yesterday, over 400 miles from Columbus.

Perry is being held in Cabarrus County Jail. A timeline for his return to Franklin County has not been announced.
