John Glenn flight forced to land after bird collision causes engine fire

Shortly after taking off from John Glenn International Airport yesterday morning, an airplane was forced to turn around and undergo an emergency landing due to a highly unusual scenario.

The plane struck a bird in mid-air, which resulted in an engine fire, according to an Associated Press report.

American Airlines flight 1958, which was bound for Phoenix, departed from the Columbus airport at 7:45 a.m. yesterday. Shortly afterwards, it was forced to turn around after a collision with a bird caused one of its engines to catch fire.

No one was injured in the event, and the airplane safely returned to John Glenn shortly after taking off. The airport only experienced minor delays.

According to the Associated Press, the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident.
