New Netflix documentary starring former Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer features controversy, intrigue

A new Netflix documentary that features interviews with former Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer is catching plenty of eyes, but also its own fair share of criticism.

The series, which is called Untold: Swamp Kings chronicles the Florida Gators football program in the years when Tim Tebow was under center and Meyer was head coach.

Beside a cast of NFL-caliber talent, Tebow became a household name, and the Gators became a college football powerhouse, before Meyer left Florida after the 2010 season to become the Ohio State head football coach.

According to a Sports Illustrated story, many felt that the documentary focused too much on the players’ successes and not on the full picture of the Gators’ national prevalence, which was rife with successes but also littered with controversies.

A Tweet from digital sports writer Ben Axelrod reads: “Those Florida teams are *most* famous for their off-field issues and instead the series is just Urban Meyer’s version of The Last Dance.”

Additionally, Awful Announcing states the documentary “barely scratches the surface” of the Gators under Meyer’s tenure. Author Jim Weber sums up the controversies not touched on in this post as well.
