Buckeye Chuck and Punxsutawney Phil have made their predictions
Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania and Buckeye Chuck here in Ohio have made their Groundhog Day predictions, and if it was warmer weather you were hoping for, you’re out of luck.
Both groundhog prognosticators saw their own shadows, which–according to legend–means we’re in store for six more weeks of winter.
For Buckeye Chuck, this prediction is a departure from his previous picks. This year is the first time Buckeye Chuck has predicted an extended winter since 2018. In fact, between 2010 and 2022, the Ohio groundhog has predicted six more weeks of winter only three times.

His Pennsylvanian counterpart, however, has predicted six more weeks of winter 100 out of his 137 recorded selections.
According to a Philadelphia Inquirer story citing data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric administration, Phil has been correct roughly 40 percent of the time, while Buckeye Chuck boasts an 80 percent success rate (although Chuck’s tenure is much shorter).
