Downtown Columbus landmark to close before this summer for year-long renovation
If part of your annual summer plans involve heading to Bicentennial Park and taking a quick jump in the Scioto Mile Fountain, this year–and possibly part of next summer, too–will have to involve alternate plans.
At yesterday’s Columbus Downtown Commission meeting, commission members unanimously voted in favor in moving forward with a $15 million renovation proposal that would begin construction sometime before this summer and finish in May of 2024.
The new proposed design would require an entirely new fountain system for the attraction, but it would also come with a host of visual changes as well.

In the warmer months, the fountain will include additional water steams, will be synced to music, and will also change color at night, illuminating not only the fountain itself but the water streams as well. In the colder months, when the fountain would typically be off, water streams will be replaced by multicolored spherical decorations that create an unqieu, and still interactive, environment for curious passerby.
The project will cost $15 million, half of which will be paid by City Council, with the Columbus Downtown Commission paying the remaining $7.5 million.
